Dear Parents, Staff, and Students;

Welcome to the Fletcher Elementary School.  This handbook is intended to serve as a reference about the culture of your school, its philosophy, expectations, rules and methods of operation.  As the school is a community, it is important that each member understand the rules needed to ensure a peaceful, safe and stimulating environment.

The Fletcher Elementary School is foremost, a community school.  This means that we recognize and value our ties to parents and other community members.  We feel that the education of our town’s children best occurs when there is a partnership between the school, parents, students, and community.  Our educational goals reflect values expressed by Vermonters from across the state.

Vermont’s Educational Goals:

Goal 1: Vermonters will see to it that every child becomes a competent, caring, productive, responsible citizen who is committed to continued learning throughout life.

Goal 2: Vermonters will restructure their schools to support very high performance for all students.

Goal 3: Vermont will attract, support and develop the most effective teachers and school leaders in the nation.

Goal 4: Vermont parents, educators, students and other citizens will create powerful partnerships to support teaching and learning in every community.

Being a community school also means that we expect parents to become actively involved in the educational process.  We welcome parent volunteers, and our doors are always open to all members of our community.

Feel free to call or stop by your school, so that you can become an active member of this exciting educational community!

Teachers' Qualifications

At the beginning of each school year, public school districts are required to notify all parents in the district that they may request information on the professional qualifications of their child's teachers.

Upon parents' request, we will provide you with the following information at a minimum:

§      Whether your child's teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional certification;

§      The teacher's academic degrees and any other professional certification;

§      The qualifications of any paraprofessionals who provide services to their child;

§      Timely notice (one time notification) if your child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not "highly qualified."
