BFA Board of Directors – Meeting Summary

Board Reorganization:
The first order of business was board reorganization. Emily Aiken was elected to another two-year term. The board currently has two open seats and will be accepting letters of interest until April 10, 2026. Two new members will be appointed at the April meeting.

Emily Aiken was elected Chair, and Mackenzie Geary was elected Clerk. Matthew Hogan has stepped down from the board after six years of dedicated service. The board extends its sincere thanks for his strong commitment during that time. He has agreed to continue supporting the district by serving on the negotiations committee on behalf of the board until a settlement is reached.

FY27 Budget Update and Reflection:
The board expressed gratitude to the community for the successful passage of the FY27 budget. Members also reflected on the budget process, discussing both what worked well and areas for improvement ahead of the next budget cycle.

Construction Update:
Administration and Jeff Hamel proposed several additional repair and maintenance items to be completed using bond funds. After discussion, the board approved these additions to maintain the current construction timeline and complete the work without the markup associated with DEW. Approved items include replacing damaged classroom flooring, updating cabinets and doors, refinishing the gymnasium floor, site work behind the building, and drainage improvements.

Act 73 Update:
Superintendent Tague provided an update on developments related to Act 73. Current legislative discussions include the possibility of a foundation formula aimed at addressing property tax concerns. There also appears to be ongoing disagreement between the House and Senate regarding voluntary versus mandatory school district mergers. The board will continue to monitor developments closely.

The board adopted the following policy:

Policy Review – First Reading:
The board reviewed the following policy update, which will return for a second reading and possible adoption at the next meeting:
• CL44: Reporting Child Abuse Policy

Next Meeting:
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be a Carousel Meeting on April 14 at Georgia Elementary/Middle School. The FWSU Board will meet at 6:00 p.m., followed by individual meetings for each respective board.
